What Happens When There’s No One Watching the Perimeter?

In all my years working protection details, I’ve never been on a team that lost its principal.
Recent events have made me think deeply about those who have.

I don’t know all the details surrounding the campus security posture or the size of the protective team involved in a recent event. But it’s a sobering reminder: no matter how skilled or prepared a detail may be, there are times when external conditions fail, and the weight of prevention rests solely on the closest personnel.

That’s led me to reflect.
What tools exist when there’s no support outside the rope line?
How do we extend our situational awareness without overextending our people?

That’s when I came across a solution from FireBot Labs, they have an overwatch platform using AI drone surveillance to detect abnormal human behavior, identify potential threats, and even flag possible weapons. It doesn’t replace people. It multiplies presence. For teams operating without venue security or law enforcement overwatch, that matters.

At MTAC, we’ve spent years training security teams to operate effectively under pressure. As our curriculum evolves, we will explore how to integrate technology like this, not just in theory, but in practical application.

Because awareness can’t be outsourced.
But it can be expanded.

And that expansion may be the difference between reaction and prevention.
